Voyageurs; fur trade; 1840's

Voyageurs / trappers
by Ally and Kayden

Voyageurs are very brave because they take risks by going straight through rocky rapids They are very strong because when they came to a water fall They would not stop and turn around they take there trading goods and carry the canoe around the waterfall and they are hard workers by working hard paddling in the canoe and building the canoe. They did not stop and take a break. The foods they ate were hard tack. They softened it up by soaking it in water, coffee or tea but sometimes they didn’t have time to make coffee or tea and they didn’t want to waste their water so they stuck it in their arm pit and there sweat softened it. They also made stuff like jerky or fresh meat frome an animal that they killed. They were heavy smokers. By smoking tobacco they would measure how far it is from one thing to another. For example, they would say that from Soap Lake to the Grand Coulee Dam it is 100 pipes. They dressed brightly so they could stand out. They would marry a native woman for about 15-20 years and start a family. Then they

Would leave their family and start a new family with a different woman.

That is the story of the voyagers.
