Animal Trapping in 1840's; Oregon Territory

Hi.  We are Anita and Jocelyn and we are talking about the fur trade in the Oregon Territory which is now Washington State.  Specifically we will tell about trapped animals. Indians trapped animals like beaver, otter and buffalo. They made hats out of beaver fur and cuffs and collars out of otter skin.  The Indians used every part of the buffalo.  It was like a walking Walmart store to them. This time was the “time of extermination” because so many animals were being killed for their fur but that changed in 1840.  It may sound funny but the silk worm saved the beaver because beaver hats went out of style and silk hats were now in style.  Just think of it- from beaver hats to silk hats.  That’s amazing! That is a lot of facts about trapped animals in America.
