This link takes you to some video shot while 4th graders learned first-hand about the fur trade in the early 1800's in what is now Washington state. Ranger Todd, from Lake Roosevelt Recreation Area did a hands-on lesson. You can see that the students dressed up, saw actual trade items and animal pelts and learned some fascinating facts. This is all part of the study of the history of Washington state answering the question "How and why did white people come here?"
